Do you often find yourself racing through your weeks at warp speed?  Do you find yourself getting impatient with others who ‘dilly-dally’ around and don’t give you the information you need fast enough?  Or, perhaps you prefer to text people rather than use the phone so you can get the message you wish to portray across without all the niceties that are required with making the phone call instead?  You could indeed be an A-Type personality and quite possibly have stopped reading this blog by now muttering ‘I don’t have time for this’ under your breath!

So, what is an A-Type Personality?         (ref: wikipedia)

  • You are very organised
  • Status conscious
  • Like it when people get to the point quickly
  • Obsessed with time management
  • Will push yourself to meet deadlines
  • Often take on more than you can handle.

Sound like you or someone you know?

While always trying to reach every goal, meet every time line and be everything for everyone else seems like the norm in an A-Type’s  life, it is not all that it is cracked up to be.  The side effects to being an A-Typer is that there is minimal/no time to relax and effectively switch off.  Why do I know this? I am self confessed A-Typer!  I have been known to take a week’s annual leave to ‘relax’ and switch off from work, only to pack my holiday with renovation projects around the house,  a daily jog, spring clean the house and dare I say it, clear my work emails just so I don’t have a mountain of them when I get back to work!

With the ever increasing knowledge on the effects of stress on our bodies, I have learnt that one of the by-products of my super efficient lifestyle is stress, even though I may not even be aware of it.  Feeling under the weather and tired are signs that you need to slow down and take care of yourself.  Contrary to popular belief, eating junk food and drinking copious amounts of coffee do not make you feel better either.  When you forget to eat lunch/don’t have time for lunch, you know you are in quite a predicament and your super efficient lifestyle is not so efficient after all.

So, let’s take a look at the table below for a quick reality check (all you A-Typer’s who have mentally switched off during this blog, take note!)

So, make a few minor changes, communicate more (no, I don’t mean send a text), slow down a little and enjoy all that life has to offer.  It was never meant to be work, work, work!
